APPRECIATION

We lot never seem to be contented with what we have. We are blessed with so much in our lives, but because we steady compare ourselves to others, and because of pride and greed, we barely ever seem to recognize our blessings. So, how then can we show appreciation for what we do have? The only time we realize what we have is when it's gone... The thought of this inspired this piece. Enjoy:

You'll never appreciate light till you get engulfed by darkness. You'll never appreciate life till the grim stench of death invades the entire biosphere. You'll never appreciate friendship till no one calls to check on you for three months straight. You'll never appreciate family till you lose them physically or emotionally. You'll never appreciate love till you stop feeling its essence around you. You'll never appreciate love till hate replaces the oxygen you breathe. You'll never appreciate the serenity of Mother Nature till she gets pissed off and vents through bloody natural disasters. You'll never appreciate the present till it becomes past and the future you worried over becomes worse than the past. You'll never appreciate God till you're next on the devil's bucket list. You'll never appreciate your house till the only roof you have over your head is the sky. You'll never appreciate your car till the only wheels you have are your feet. You'll never appreciate good times till bad times begin to flirt with you. You'll never appreciate peace till the wars you heard of from afar abruptly visit you and you begin to witness them in 3D. You'll never appreciate freedom till captivity replaces the sun, moon, and stars. You'll never appreciate little acts of kindness till they become more scarce than the sun during polar nights. You'll never appreciate his care and affection till you fall prey to vicious hungry wolves. You'll never appreciate his touch till the only thing you feel on your skin is the coldness of the night. You'll never appreciate her warmth till you begin to desperately search for warmth in flashbacks. You'll never appreciate her smile till the only thing you're left with is a bleak gallery of memories...

Take a second and imagine yourself without all you have right now and maybe you'll finally acknowledge your blessings with thanksgiving. Don't wait till you lose something before recognizing its importance and relevance. If you're full of appreciation for the things you have right now, you'd relish and savor them, consequently increasing their lifespan. And even if you lose them, you'd find succor in knowing you made the most out of them; thus, the memories would be pleasant. But if you don't recognize and appreciate your blessings now, you'll soon be left with irreversible regrets, and the memories will be profound torture to your soul.

Recognize, appreciate, and savor your blessings today, for tomorrow might be too...
